When starting in Rift, you will have to decide which faction you will fight for. The Defiant are the machine masters that believe science will save the world from Regulos, while the Guardians believe that only true faith will save them. Each side presents different challenges and a different storyline. Choose your race from one of three for both factions and then your class from one of four – Warrior, Mage, Cleric or Rogue.
There are different Souls in Rift that allow you to play a class completely your own way. You can combine up to three different soul trees within your class in order to create an incredibly powerful character that is completely unique to you. These souls make up a role, which you can also have multiple roles. This means, you can change your role in a party on the fly – a warrior can go from dishing out massive amounts of damage to tanking in the click of a button and change of gear.
There are numerous dungeons and challenges throughout the world of Telara as well. These dungeons will challenge players to form a group and work together to beat all of the bosses. However, there are also rifts that will open randomly throughout the world, giving you the chance to earn some extra experience and always keep you on your toes.
If you end up reaching the highest levels, even more challenges await you in Rift. There are plenty of end-game raids to dive into and an extensive guild system that will help you find like-minded players to take on these challenges with. The time for the Ascended has come and you must answer the call if the world of Telara is to be saved from the evil mastermind Regulos.
