Publishers InnoGames have announced a new game update for their free-to-play pirate game Kartuga that may frustrate some of the more dedicated players out there.
In their blog entry, the folks at InnoGames thank all players that have participated in the closed beta of the browser-based online game which has started at the end of February.
"Since then, our development team has continued to work diligently on the game and incorporated new features, improved existing ones and applied lots of minor bug fixes. All this would not have been possible without your active support!"
The newly published update has the potential, however, to frustrate precisely those loyal pirate-fans that have been around to support the game from the get-go. The update resets all server data which means that all characters start at level one again, with an empty inventory, and each player’s current rank is deleted. In this way, the Kartuga team hopes to create a fair and balanced game environment.
"Many of you have already played one or more characters extensively, reached a high level and obtained powerful items. Furthermore, from now on, you’ll be able to purchase gems, which was also not possible before. Therefore, it would be unfair to all new players who were not yet lucky and couldn’t participate in the closed beta."
What remains after the wipe, are 200 gems, players’ account and login credentials, players’ social connections, and one character with the highest level – who will be reset to level one. All other characters will be deleted.
Innogames assure that this will be the first and only time that the servers and characters will be reset. On another note: As part of the game update, the publishers have decided to open payment.
