Publishers Nexon have announced a new mini-game for their free-to-play, side-scrolling game, MapleStory. The update, called Monster Life, allows players to raise monsters on a customized farm.
Every player will receive one farm per account which cannot be deleted once it’s been created. The farm is shared by all characters and worlds that are linked to that account.
The new mini-game is supposed to change the way in which players can communicate within the MMORPG universe. From their farm, gamers can chat with every other player that is logged into MapleStory, whether those players are logged into Monster Life or not. The folks at Nexon want gamers to socialize with each other in a number of ways, by visiting other farms, posting profile statuses, leaving messages on guest books, and playing with other friends’ monsters.
Monster Life features a farm that can be individually customized by adding buildings, décor, and personal profile information. New items can be purchased with two brand new currencies called Gems and Waru. While Gems can either be bought with NX in the cash shop or found in a Lucky Box, Waru can be obtained by achieving several specific goals in the game.
Players can raise hundreds of monsters on their farm which level up when they are cared for. Monsters with a higher level are more likely to earn special awards when performing certain actions. Players can get monsters from the Monster Life shop, from boxes, from quests, or by cross-breeding existing monsters. Once they are released, monsters will appear in regular Maple World hunting grounds where they can be defeated.
