Publishers Sony Online Entertainment have major plans for their first-person shooter Planetside 2. A couple of weeks ago, they announced that the game would be released as a launch title for Sony’s next gen console. Planetside 2’s art director Tramell Isaac sat down with Rev3Games for an E3 interview to discuss the upcoming release on PS4.
In the interview, Isaac states that Planetside 2 will not be cross-platform compatible. PC players will not be able to compete or play with console gamers. Instead, the developers are planning on specifically focusing on a console audience and catering to their needs. They want to devote as much time to their designated console players as they always have to their PC gamers, without neglecting the latter. Isaac also argues that he and his team are producing what he calls a PlayStation 4 game-native.
"At the end of the day, Planetside 2 on the PlayStation 4 needs to feel like a console game. It shouldn’t be this PC game that we kind of made it into a PlayStation 4 game."
TRAMELL ISAAC, ART DIRECTOR PLANETSIDE 2
While the art director promises that the game will not end up being pay-to-win, he does confess that the game will include so called Slidegrades which allow players to purchase objects or upgrades that will benefit their gaming-style.
